Michael Africa (and his wife) spent 40 years in prison for a crime that he did not commit. Like countless other Philadelphians he is a victim of the Frank Rizzo administration. Because of his activism as a member of the Move Organization he was targeted and unjustly sentenced.
Michael Africa, Jr. is a member of the Move Organization and the Black Philly Radical Collective. He is the son of two political prisoners who were recently released from prison after 40 years as documented on the HBO Original film “40 Years A Prisoner.” He watched the smoke in the sky from the fire that burned his family alive when the Philadelphia police dropped a bomb on their house. His current mission is to exonerate his parents who are on parole until 2078. He believes racism is a key reason for the unjust treat of his parents.
